he Jos Bird Club (JBC) celebrated her fifth anniversary with a BirdFair in Jos last weekend. We had a Birdwatch, Lecture/Presentations and an exhibition at the A.P Leventis Ornithological Research Institute (APLORI) in Amurum Forest, Jos East.

I remembered my first outing with JBC (not my first birdwatching experience). It was on a pleasant Saturday morning on the 11th of March 2019 at the Lutheran Mission Compound in Dogon Dutse. I was up before the first light of the day, came along with a jotter to record the bird species and a heart full of Joy. Subsequently, I was introduced to the BirdLasser app and the African Bird Club App which made my Birdwatching experiences easier and enjoyable.

Birdwatching has helped me a lot to relax and enjoy nature while learning new things with every outing. We are blessed here in JBC to have so many ornithologists in the club who are ever ready and willing to help in ID-ing birds, butterflies, plants etc.

When you are out in nature, you have no time to think of APC/PDP, Ronaldo/Messi, Rice/Beans, Natural hair/Bone Straight, Wizkid/Davido, Chicken or the egg…

Birds are amazing, the colours on Senegal Parrot blending perfectly, the Scarlet-chested Sunbird flapping its wings while balancing mid-air to pollinate a flower, the majestic looking Pin-tailed Whydah are among the hundreds of birds species in Jos and environs we look forward to watching every month.

If you live in Jos do yourself some good and come join us, you will love it!
